About the Artist

“I paint fearless.” My signature expressionistic flowers are painted in a bright, snappy palette in quick, bold strokes. I believe that one can only transmit onto the canvas the wellspring of one's soul and mind. Daily meditation on Scripture and intentional mental focus on things that are true, honest, just, pure and beautiful have cultivated in me an inner sense of peace, gratitude and joy. I paint with joy overflowing.

My style started in a studio in Miami: painting outdoors, poolside, my Colombian mentor, whose lack of English matched my lack of Spanish, encouraged me—through lots of hand signals and maternal hovering over my easel—to study Realism in order to understand color, form and scale. Under her watchful eye, these all-day painting sessions yielded large-scale oils of pears, apples and still-life's, all while enjoying frequent Cafecito chats and ceviche al fresco. A move to Connecticut took me to the famed Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, Connecticut. There, I connected with acclaimed American Master Painter Clyde Smith. He took me under his wing and helped me develop my own style. He showed me that my brush strokes were different than other painters; my natural stroke is quick and bold. As Clyde used to say, I “paint fearless.” Under his tutelage, I switched from painting in oils to painting in acrylics; this change was dictated by my natural stroke. He also encouraged me to move away from Realism into Expressionism, when he noticed that my color sense matched that of Expressionism and Fauvism. I eventually developed a distinctly personal style. My signature florals are painted in a bright, snappy expressionistic palette. I present them to you in original paintings, art prints, and accessories.

The Studios

I maintain studios in Miami and in a cottage in the woods of Connecticut. In 2012, I started also working in rural Rwanda. Recent art collaborations with our teams of women and girls there led me to explore mixed media; the results are large scale vivid Pop Art Hearts, made with hundreds of handmade pom poms. Profits from this work go directly back to Rwanda, where we co-create bakeries and work centers in communities facing need for daily food and steady work.
